I’m looking for a book that is a little more challenging. I feel like I have read a lot of books this year that could have been entertaining but left me feeling unsatisfied. As much as I like being entertained and enjoy the thrill, I find myself bored when I read a book that requires no thought. Some books I enjoyed this year are The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, Yellowface by R.F. Kuang, and some of the Temperance Brennan series by Kathy Reichs. I’m currently reading The Women by Kristin Hannah and enjoying it so far. Some examples of books I either strongly disliked or left me disappointed are Verity by Colleen Hoover, The Housekeeper by Joy Fielding, The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden, and You Shouldn’t Have Come here by Jeneva Rose. So, what would you recommend for me that will challenge me a little more? Something that requires some thought rather than just the ability to read. I will try any genre. Thank you in advance!

I just finished “bat eater and other names for Cora zang” and I enjoyed it. Literary horror might be the genre?
