I want to read, really, I do. I am not sure why I'm finding it so challenging now a days. Between audio books and actual books I've only read 6 this year (since 2025 was the year I planned to get back to reading, 12 was my goal).

I've started many more i just, can't seem to finish and I have a hard time picking ones to read. Additionally I have awful reading retention (always have), not that this matters too much as I know i like reading and when I finish a book I usuay determine if I like it or not based on how I'm feeling.

Anyway, please recommend me a book to get me out of this rut! I'm looking for something that will catch and hold my attention but that is also light hearted. I work a stressful job, am also in school and have family issues so I'm stressed enough already (also just turned 40 and the aging thing isn't helping my mental health).

Here's what I've started and yet to finish – i get 80-100 pages in and just…don't go back to it.

    • everyone in my family has killed someone (I've started and stopped this at least 3 times)
    • all fours
    • the seven husbands of Evelyn hugo
    • there's no such thing as an easy job (I might try this one again)
    • hench (I definitely want to try this one again but no longer on libby so will buy it)
    • better than the movies
    • the blonde identity (still on my nightstand bought as an easy summer vacation read that I didn't get to finish on vacation and only picked it up 1x since
    • many other business, self help, leadership type books

Here are the 6 I finished
    – Bandit queens
    – one day in December
    – beach read
    – family of liars (only read because I read and watched we were liars)
    – inheritance game (had no desire to read the rest of the series)
    – open throat (this was quick and interesting to me)

Sorry that this post is pretty long, I just want to get back to reading instead of doom scrolling when I need a break!
