Just wondering if anyone knows of any fantasy set in a steppe climate, or other climates that aren't often seen in fantasy. Ideally books that don't exotify the climate/culture any more than europe-fantasy books exotify europe. Fantasy I encounter is so often based on (western/central) europe and it gets so boring (and if it's not europe, it's often like, woahwawa check out this exotic fantastical culture and their strange food or whatever, which is actually worse)

Not a book, but an absolutely gorgeous and haunting comic that captures exactly what you’re looking for is called Home by the Rotting Sea. I don’t want to spoil anything, but highly recommend 🧡
