I’m looking for mainly audiobooks but regular books as well written by people who you think are worth supporting- people who give back to their community, overcame some life hardship and now help others, support good causes, etc.
I usually like mystery/thrillers, sci-fi, historical fiction, fantasy, almost everything really but I’m open to any suggestions!

That’s a great question btw. I usually don’t know anything about modern writers whatsoever. Also will be happy if someone can suggest a good read
Louise Erdrich
I can recommend “What We Can Know” by Ian McEwan. This is his last book, I enjoyed it very much. The genre is quite unique…sort of future meets past meets present. As for the author, it seems to me that he is a humble, noble person… …
Mitch Albom is a good dude. He runs an orphanage in Haiti. His last 3 books are great reads
Barbara Kingsolver apparently used her proceeds from Demon Copperhead to build a rehab center in Appalachia.
Jimmy Santiago Baca
Christopher Moore, Jason Pargin, Grady Hendrix are among favorites of mine if you’re into weird stuff (not like that. Or maybe like that. Whatever floats your boat).
Wally Lamb works with incarcerated women, doing writing workshops, and many of the women have had published essays.
