This is a bit of a strange request. I know someone who’s very out of touch with reality when it comes to money and status. They care a lot about luxury brands, designer clothes, and appearances, and sometimes it really bothers me especially when I think about how many people can’t even afford basic things like food or housing (they are the kind of person who seems to view service people as beneath them, who get confused when people don’t jump at their idea of wanting to go on a luxury vacation, who just keep talking about all the expensive things they own etc). This person actually loves to read and for Christmas this year I’d like to find a book that could help gently shift their perspective (something that reminds the reader that money, status, and possessions don’t define a meaningful life, and that empathy, kindness, and human connection matter far more). I’m not the type of person who wants to lecture anyone or tell them how to live. I believe people can come to realizations on their own and learn to have more empathy and be better human beings.
