I’m working on the ACOTAR series by Sarah J. Maas and one of the books has the love interest just obsessed with the main character but not telling her directly for a good while, and it reminded me how much I love this trope! I’m looking for other books like this. Just any books you’ve read where you get that clench in your belly waiting for them to finally admit how intense their feelings are for each other.
Best friends who are secretly in love with each other are good, or if they’re flirting or casually involved with one another while denying the depth of their feelings, or if one or both is convinced there’s some external reason they can’t be together so they’re pretending everything is fine … all good!
LGBTQ+ a MAJOR bonus!!! I’m spice neutral, so I don’t really need it but don’t mind it either. Most types of romance work for me but I’m enjoying the romantasy element right now. I also am a big Jane Austen girlie so regency, especially regency LGBTQ+, is good. But contemporary romance is also a vibe!
One thing that’s a little tricky is I’ve been ruined by an MFA in creative writing and the prose quality and character development have to be at least decent. I know that’s boring of me! But send me all your recommendations and I’ll tell you what I think of them!
