Seconding Becky Chambers for light sci-fi. T. Kingfisher is excellent for fairy tales. I always recommend Naomi Novik for fantasy, can’t really go wrong with any of her books. Katherine Addison also writes excellent fantasy. And of course Martha Wells has some excellent sci-fi and fantasy books.

Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls by Lois McMaster Bujold

The Burnished City trilogy by Davinia Evans, starts with Notorious Sorcerer
Greenteeth by Molly O’Neill
The Green Man series by Juliet E McKenna, urban fantasy set in the English countryside, the series starts with The Green Man’s Heir

NK Jemisin – her Broken Earth trilogy was really good
Nnedi Okorafor – Binti, Noor….you really can’t go wrong with any of hers. Binti has a teenage protagonist but isn’t YA
Tasha Suri’s Jasmine Throne was amazing (first in a trilogy). There is a romance plotline but it’s not the focus

In no particular order, since it depends on your taste:
* Robin Hobb, The Realm of Elderings
* Fonda Lee, The GreenBone Saga
* Katherine Arden, The Winternight Trilogy
* Arkady Martine, Teixcalaan duology (this one is SciFi)
* S. A. Chakraborty, The Daevabad Trilogy
* Jacqueline Carey, The Kushiel’s Series
* Juliet Marillier, various series, but if I’ve to pick one: Daughter of the Forest
* T. Kingfisher, various books, if I’ve to pick one: Nettle&Bone
* Naomi Novik, again, a lot of different books, but I’d go with Uprooted
* M. L. Wang, The Sword of Kaigen
* Catherynne M. Valente, Deathless
* Lois McMaster Bujold, Chalion series
* Susanna Clarke, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Piranesi
* Erin Morgenstern, The Night Circus
