I'm in a slump. I finished Lonesome Dove last month and shortly thereafter finished Madonna In A Fur Coat. Lonesome Dove was indeed as good as everyone on here has said. After LD, Madonna was such a drag. I haven't been able to find the will to pick something up since. So, here's a list of things I've already got. Please pick my next read!

    • East of Eden by Steinbeck
      • (I know it'll be good but the length is daunting and I am a university student so I'm scared I'll feel demotivated by my lack of free time and the page count, maybe you'll convince me though!)
    • Butcher's Crossing by John Williams
    • Swann's Way by Proust
    • The Door by Magda Szabo
    • Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar
    • The Summer Book by Tove Jansson
    • The Wall by Marlen Haushofer
    • Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk
    • Middlemarch by George Eliot
    • A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

For reference, I like to feel moved by profound yet simple characters. I am young but have an affinity for stories about aging/the elderly. I like things that are contemplative, but disdain tones of yearning/longing. I read to gain insight on myself and the world around me, but don't enjoy being preached at. I hope that helps!

If you have any additional suggestions, please let me know! I may own it, or I can go and get it (only if it's really intriguing, because I ought to finish all these unread books on my shelf first).

Thank you very much in advance and take care everyone 🙂
