Peter Watts. But he just mentions cool stuff and to learn you’d need to check long ass references lists.

This is probably not as much fact as you want, but the Reformatory by Tananarive Due. It’s set in Jim Crow era Florida–one of the main characters has a sort of psychic sensitivity and several times, when she meets a new character and shakes their hand, she gets a flash of their future. Knowing the author is the daughter of a civil rights activist and an ACLU lawyer, I decided to look up the names of these side characters, all of whom are really only present for one scene. They were all based on real people who were hurt or killed or otherwise had their lives ruined by racists because they were black. For instance, she shakes one man’s hand and gets a sense of fire and panic. I googled that man’s name, and he was an influential member of the ACLU who was killed after the KKK threw an explosive device into his house.

Crichton does this (and I think his style is similar to Browns).
