Shes average quirky girly 25yo, mother to 2 children. She kinda dresses like down to earth hippy, into spirituality, any story fiction books I can send her that are easy read and keep her entertained while she's locked up? Shes also into Lakota native culture rn (we are not Lakota but whatever floats her boat lol), so I was thinking about sending her Lakota Woman memorior book by Mary Brave Bird. Any read that and opinion? Shes also into astrology and wants astrology book. Easy reads, woman reads, no literary classics or nothing dense. Doesn't have to be Lakota, native, or spiritual. Shes also dealing with grief rn because her boyfriend just died so if there's anything with a good relating message , that's good too

You’re going to have to check with the facility that she’s at since there will be restrictions on who and how she can get books. Depending on the state, there’s going to be restrictions on what books she can have.

    2. First call the jail to verify that she’s even allowed to receive books while she’s in. They probably only allow books shipped directly from a company.

It’s not specifically Lakota and I’m not sure it qualifies as “easy reading” but Louise Erdrich’s *The Sentence* is about a Native woman’s experience with addiction, incarceration, and reinventing herself as a book shop employee after getting out of prison in 2019.

    3. My go-to comfort reads are James Herriot’s *All Creatures Great and Small* books about his experiences as a rural farm veterinarian in the 1940s. Funny and real in a “restore your faith in humanity” kind of way.
