Could you suggest me some dark fiction books/short stories with detailed, realistic characters and strong worldbuilding?

So in short, I like story-focused books with detailed characters and important decisions.

I like both sci-fi and fantasy, anything can come, it's even better if the setting is a bit disturbing or melancholic.

I don't mind when the main characters are expendable, I enjoy symbolism in books too.

When it comes to fiction, I love the work of Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, Alastair Reynolds, George R. R. Martin, Neil Gaiman, Frank Herbert.

I enjoyed books like Blindness by José Saramago or the Metro books exceptionally, and love gothic literature in general very much, but I'd like to read more and get to know more authors and good books.
