Hi — I'm looking for a YA novel I read years ago. I only remember fragments, hoping someone here will recognize it:
- Female protagonist (teen girl). Possibly comes to stay with her father or visits a small town / countryside.
- A major plot element or memorable scene involves a fire at a windmill The fire (or its aftermath) is important to the story (sometimes mentioned as a past tragedy or as a current event).
- The edition I remember had a realistic photo of a jeans pocket (close-up) on a white background— looked like a hardcover (but could be a special edition). The image was basically the pocket/waist area of jeans, not an illustration.
- I originally read it around the late 1990s / early 2000s (could be early 2000s or a later reprint). The author was American (I think).
- Other small memories: rural / small-town vibe, family secrets. Possibly marketed as YA / teen fiction.
If this rings a bell — even partially — PLEASE tell me: title, edition, or upload an image of the cover if you have it. Any help appreciated ❤️
