    Hi there!

It’s been quite a while since I last read a thriller — lately I’ve mostly been reading science fiction (Herbert, Damasio, …).

So, for the holidays, I’d like to change things up a bit and get back to my old habits. The thing is, I’d like to move away from the kinds of thrillers I used to read, which had started to bore me a little.

I used to read a lot of Jo Nesbø and Fred Vargas, for example. What I found repetitive were the novels that tried to be as gory as possible, or that relied on unbelievable twists, or simply followed the same old formula (the charismatic yet depressive, solitary, slightly violent detective, …).

Anyway, what I’m looking for now is something with a different vibe — maybe a more contemplative thriller, with more depth and reflection, maybe even blending different genres or worlds. Basically, something that stands out from the usual, with well-developed characters and an engaging plot.

I’m not sure if I’ve made myself clear, but in short, if you have any recommendations you think might fit, I’d love to hear them! 🙂

P.S.: As I said, feel free to suggest more experimental stuff — something that mixes genres or pushes boundaries. I trust your instincts!

    1. Have a look at John Hart, particularly The Last Child. It was an excellent, gritty thriller about a dysfunctional family with a missing daughter. It centres on the soon who remains and the search to find her. Very good indeed.
