Just finished Jane eyre today and was fascinated by the sheer amount of content packed into it. I’m very feeling the missionary part. Any similar books with a “wretched antagonist”, multiple story lines and a lot of details on the Nature?

try “rebecca” by daphne du maurier for similar brooding atmosphere and morally ambiguous characters, or “the tenant of wildfell hall” by anne brontë which has that same multi-layered narrative structure. “villette” by charlotte brontë gives you similar missionary themes and detailed psychological exploration. honestly kate seger’s dark fantasy work might appeal if you enjoy morally complex characters though it’s more supernatural than gothic.
Try The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe. It’s gothic fiction from the late 1700s, with a female protagonist who experiences tragedy and hardship but deals with it in an independently and strongly minded way which reminds me ofJane Eyre at times. There are lots of descriptions of nature and how it affects her, I really enjoyed that aspect of it.
