Hi!
I’ve picked up reading as a hobby again for the first time since middle school (I’m 29F), and I’m having a lovely time!… The only problem is, I’ve found that my favorite kind of books are post-apocalyptic survival stories that can be pretty depressing, and it’s kind of getting to me. I’d love to expand my horizons and try something new to lift my spirits!
I’ve considered cozy books, but I think they are a little too low-stakes for me; I need something engaging to keep my attention. I am also not a fan of romance in books.
My favorite book of all time is The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart. I have read all the other books in the series as well, as well as his other books, and enjoyed them. I really love the adventure aspect, and the emphasis team-building and the relationships between the characters. Overall, they’re very lighthearted and hopeful.
I am not against YA, as long as it’s engaging and well-written, though I do prefer adult.
Books that I’ve enjoyed recently:
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
Wool by Hugh Howey
Thank you all for any recommendations you may provide! I really appreciate it!!
