I have a family member who is very susceptible to health misinformation. I'd love to suggest we read a book together — something that serves as a good counter to the misinformation she hears in her wired earbuds (she refuses to use Bluetooth earbuds because she says they cause brain cancer). Important: I think that for maximum effectiveness, I need a book that is less academic in focus, and more personal. Maybe a memoir from someone whose life was harmed by believing in health misinformation?
Here's the dream: A book about someone who believes in woowoo nonsense as a way of coping with/finding personal empowerment in a world that robs us of agency. Then, when something happens that rattles her beliefs, she eventually finds personal empowerment by realizing that there is, in fact, a world of facts that can help us make smarter, rational decisions.
Does anything like this exist?
Thank you!
