Readers of Reddit, I come to you for help. I've given into the trend and want to read some Romantasy, however, I have no idea where to start. I grew up reading fantasy, but never was able to make the bridge into romance and like to give the genre combi a try! The last time I was in my local bookstore I got overwhelmed just by the sheer number of titles. I'm also a picky reader, so I'm hoping to get some good recommendations from those who have been reading the genre for a while.
What I'm looking for is something steamy and spicy, but doesn't sacrifice the story or character for those scenes (though, lbr, smut for the sake of smut isn't a bad thing!). I don't like drama for the sake of drama, a story will completely loose me if the conflict between characters can be resolved with a simple conversation. I'm especially interested in stories about queer characters and untraditional relationships (such as polyamory), but it's not necessarily a deal breaker. I'm also a sucker for a friends to lovers trope, enemies to friends or enemies to lovers.
I know that's a lot and no one book is necessarily going to fit all of that into it, and that being so picky is an obstacle I've put up for myself, so I appreciate any and all recommendations!
Thank you!

Maybe A Taste Of Gold And Iron? MLM romance with some spice that follows an anxious prince that gets caught up in a conspiracy involving counterfeit currency, a nighttime break in, and a national secret.
The Saga of the Unfated (starting with A Fate Inked in Blood) has plot and character development along with romance. I also liked A Werewolf’s Guide to Seducing a Vampire.
Maybe warrior princess assassin there is only 1 book out but there is a throuple MMF
The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig
Swordcrossed by Freya Marske
The Heartbreak Show by Jesikah Sundin

Throne of the Fallen by Kerri Maniscalco

The Sea Witch by Eva Leigh is a feminist romantasy novel about a ship full of lady pirates who are also witches (enemies-to-lovers romance between the female captain and a male navy sailor). It’s the first in a series but it’s the only one that has been released so far
