My mom’s been getting back into reading, and I don’t know what books to suggest to her. She recently read Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt and absolutely loved it! She also likes:
– clean books (no spice/little swearing)
– historical fiction
– Hispanic authors
But shes open to trying out different genres! Please let me know what books you would suggest!!

I’m thinking The Debutante by Gemma Frances. It’s Victorian/time travel/YA and I can’t remember any swearing
A Long Petal of the Sea, by Isabel Allende
Solito by Javier Zamora, and We’ll Prescribe You a Cat by Syou Ishida
Then should I suggest one ?
I recently read a book it was hardly around 200-250 pages long and it’s a complete story .
The genre is reincarnation like — soul transmigration.
If I am to give a brief details about the story .
So it’s about an office worker, he was wrongfully accused and murdered by his boss. Now right before he died his soul transmigrated into a child. Plot was that child was none other than the youngest grandchild of the JN group ( I guess that’s what it was called ) and the murderer was in this family. Now he is seeking revenge for all the wrongdoings, the villain did to him and his past family. The plot thickness in the second chapter, and i actually loved it. It’s not a romance story so no need to worry about spice. It is a revenge story but not bloody at all.
BOOK TITLE — FROM ASHES TO VENGEANCE.
I have suggested this book to so many people, it’s not famous but it was actually good I guess. So if your mother like this sort of story she could give it a try ❤️. Happy reading 💕
West with Giraffes.
Doomsday Book by Connie Willis
It’s science-fiction, historical fiction, and a human drama about the Black Plague.
Death of a Gossip. A cozy mystery by M.C. Beaton
The Veronica Speedwell Series by Raybourn
The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel
How to Read a Book, Monica Wood
Theo of Golden, Allen Levi
The Correspondent, Virginia Evans
La Hacienda by Isabel Cañas!
Historical fiction 🙂
I recently read my name is Emilia Devalle ? By Isabelle Allende. Very good!
I wonder if she might like Bless Me Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. Set in New Mexico of the 1940s.
A family takes in an old curandera, and she guides them through a lot of very difficult things.
If she liked remarkably bright creatures, I would recommend Shark heart: a love story.
All the books by **D. S. Stevenson**. Set in Britain, mainly in or centred around Scotland. Almost all are contemporary when written (1930s–60s) except for one or two historicals.
My mom also enjoyed “Remarkably Bright Creatures”. I’d recommend “A Man Called Ove” and “The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife” because she enjoyed these even more.
