I have read in this order, All the Missing Girls- liked, The Perfect Stranger-Liked, The Safest Lies-liked, The Last to Vanish- bored to tears, Fracture- almost as boring as TLTV, and I am now reading, Hysteria- and I am only 4 chapters in but it's pretty boring so far.
I was planning on one day buying The Only Survivors, because the premise seems so interesting, but then again so did the premise of Hysteria and Fracture seem interesting.
So when do you cut your loses with an author, and any opinions on Megan Miranda's books is appreciated.

I don’t know this author so my response is just general to following any author.
You need to ask yourself if the author themselves have perhaps changed their writing style (maybe moving in a different direction or even just getting lazy) or maybe your own interests have changed?
I have followed many authors over the years and sometimes just need a break to see if they really are someone I want to follow further.
I’ve never been in your position. When I don’t like the first book by an author I just don’t continue reading them. When I liked the first and disliked the second, I’ll probably also not continue. In your case I would probably take a break from that author and try again at anothet time.
Three books will sell me in either direction, love this author, don’t like this author.
BUT if it’s 2 that were eh and 1 that I LOVED I’ll probably keep going back just hoping for that same magic book connection.
Depends on how bad the first book is. If I hate it, that’s it. Books are a commitment and if I have put x amount of hours into a book and not enjoyed it, I’m not going back. If I’m already a fan and the 4th book in is shit, I’ll give the author the benefit of the doubt and move on after a bit of a break.
Fracture and Hysteria are some of her earlier books (pre All The Missing Girls), and the descriptions seem different to me than her work beginning with ATMG. So I am guessing she changed her style or just kind of grew as an author in between that trilogy and ATMG.
Haven’t read LTV yet, so I’m interested to see what other comments you get here.
