I’m 22 and I’ve been in a major reading slump since I graduated from high school over four years ago. I’ve started a few books (mostly nonfiction books about science or medical topics) but I haven’t been able to finish one. Any suggestions for a good nonfiction book that’s easy for a layperson to understand? I’m also interested in exploring the sci-fi/fantasy genre but I’m not interested in books with a major romantic plot.

I’m a big fan of novellas, essay collections and short stories when slumpy. It allows you finish something and get that positive feedback without commiting to an entire book. You can dip in and out while building back up those reading neurons in the brain.

      ***Nonfiction Essay Collections***

      On Immunity – Eula Bliss

The Mind’s Eye – Oliver Sachs

Braiding Sweetgrass – Robin Wall Kimmerer

      ***SF Novellas***

All Systems Red – Martha Wells

All you need is Kill – Hiroshi Sakurazaka

Nothing but the Rain – Naomi Salman

    2. Shadow Divers is a non-fiction about a WW2 German sub found iff the coast of New Jersey that history says should not be there

Into Thin Air is about an Everest expedition gone sideways. Non fiction.

Project Hail Mary is great too. Read it before the movie comes out.
