So, many books with middle eastern characters are about war torn countries and political turmoil. Which I get. However, I just want a regular story with middle eastern characters. Basically just don’t want the whole main story to be about war. I love Persian/iranian but Middle East in general is cool too.
I recently read the Test by Sylvain neuvel which has an Iranian main character, and even though the author isn’t Persian I found it very refreshing since I don’t remember the last time (if ever?) I’ve read a book that has an Iranian character just because. so the author doesn’t need to be middle eastern necessarily but it’s a plus!

I’m not sure that it meets the brief but Everything Sad is Untrue by Daniel Nayeri is excellent. It’s an autobiographical novel told by a young Daniel growing up in Oklahoma after his family fled Iran.
