I recently finished The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman and was completely fascinated—and heartbroken—by the clash between Western medicine and Hmong health practices.
I’d love to read more books that explore similar themes: cross-cultural medicine, Indigenous or rural health, or the human side of healthcare when cultural beliefs and biomedical systems collide.
They don’t have to be Canadian-focused, but it’d be a bonus if they are. Any recommendations? Thank you!
