I’m watching Supernatural for the first time (absolute LOVE), and I’m on season 5, at the part where (spoilers) Dean is trying to say yes to becoming Michael’s vessel to save the world (thereby basically killing himself). Sam, Cas, and Bobby (his friends/family) are trying to stop him by locking him up in Bobby’s demon proof panic room.

Basically I'm looking for books where a character is being held against their will for their own good, either to stop them from sacrificing themselves, because they're trying to join a battle where they'll probably get killed, being detoxxed, committing suicide, etc. I just want that angst of trying to escape to save the world, while your friends hold you back because they love you too much to lose you. Any type of restraint, including locked up, tied up, handcuffed somewhere, knocked out, guarded, etc. is welcome. Conversations between the person locked up trying to convince the people who locked them up that they should let them go for the greater good would be amazing.

I honestly don't care what kind of book it is, I just really want that desperation of trying to save a friend/lover who doesn't want to be saved

The best example of this I've read is in a YA series called Artemis Fowl by Erin Colfer in the last book, Artemis Fowl and the Last Guardian. The main character, Artemis, is planning on sacrificing himself to close a gate that will start the apocalypse, so the other main character, Holly, tries drugging him to stop him so she could do it instead. However, Artemis counteracted the drug and drugged her instead so he could sacrifice himself. You could just *feel* the despair Holly had in her eyes as she watched him walk away. *That's* what I want, that feeling of desperation trying to stop someone from killing themselves (for any reason)

There was also a werewolf Wattpad book I read years ago (don't remember the name) where the MMC could order the FMC to do something and she had to do it, so he ordered her to stay back instead of going into a battle. He felt terrible doing it but didn't want her to die, and she felt incredibly betrayed because he promised never to use that on her. That sort of angst is exactly what I'm looking for.

I wasn't sure which flair to put so I just put adventure, but I'm open to romance, fantasy, YA, pretty much anything
