    Hey everyone! With fascism on the rise around the world (and in my opinion, in my home country of America) what are some great books about the rise of fascism? I've read The Coming of the Third Reich by Richard Evans and loved it, but any other recommendations would be very much appreciated! Thank you all!

      I just started How to Stand Up to a Dictator by Maria Ressa. It’s part memoir (she has lived an extraordinary life), but it’s also about how social media and online misinformation network can bring down a democracy. I really like it so far

      In the Garden of Beasts, by Erik Larson

      It tells the story of the US ambassador to Germany when Hitler assumes power.

      How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them, Jason Stanley

      The Anatomy of Fascism, Robert O. Paxton

      The Rise of Fascism, by F L Carsten . Published in the late 60s, so it might be hard to find but probably the best overview.

      Benjamin Carter Hett, The Death of Democracy;
      AJP Taylor, The Origins of the Second World War

    6. I’m reading “erasing history: how fascists rewrite the past to control the future” by Jason Stanley right now and I am loving it. Next on my list is “the origins of totalitarianism” by Hannah Arendt.

      They Thought They Were Free by Milton Mayer. It’s about the thought process of ordinary German citizens during the rise of the Third Reich. Absolutely a must-read if you’ve ever asked the question “how can people just let this happen?”
