Tl,dr: Remember that part at the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi where Rey & Kylo team up to fight all those guys in the red hoods? I’m looking for a story which builds to a scene like that (without the rest of the Star Wars baggage lol)

I’ve been looking for this book for months at this point, and while I’ve had some great recommendations from elsewhere I’ve yet to really find what I’m looking for. It’s kind of specific, and not terribly common, so I understand why, but I’m hoping you all can help.

The main thing in this story I’m looking for is a big, potentially climatic scene where two characters who have been legitimate adversaries (though ideally neither is clearly morally superior to the other) up to this point cave in and team up with each other. They realize they work well together, and they pull out what seems to be a desperate situation. While I hate to use this as an example because of the rest of the internet discourse around this series, the scene at the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi where Rey is captured and Kylo Ren teams up with her to kill the big bad guy is really the most well known example I can think of. Neither of the characters are perfect, they’re both lacking in allies, and they’re both very powerful within their universe making them unstoppable together. Ideally, the two would be in some sort of romantic relationship, but at that point I’m adding a lot of specifications that’ll make this book even harder to find.

Most of the other books I’ve looked in to for this fall in to one of two categories. The first is Heist books. I can see why, heist stories often feature people who don’t like each other and are forced to work together, but the reason I haven’t stopped after reading these is the team up happens too early. There’s no chance for the characters to really clash when they’re roped in to the same team at the start. The other category is Enemies to Lovers Romance novels. Again, I get it, there’s a lot of focus on animosity becoming something positive, but it’s still not quite what I’m looking for. These books usually have a much more gradual change for the relationship rather than one big fight, and they don’t often feature the kind of action/plot focus needed to get to moment like the one I want.

As for the rest of the story leading up to the scene, I don’t much care. I guess I always pictured it as a sword and magic, fantasy adventure type book, but I do not need it to be that way. I also like the idea of a darker or morally grey world. If you can think of something that fits what I’m looking for, I’ll try basically anything.

    Thanks in advance!
