I was raised agnostic, dad is atheist and mom is loosely spiritual. And I want to understand Christianity more since it’s such a big part of the society i interact with day to day (US). And when I say Christianity I mean the umbrella term, not a specific branch of it. I am looking for texts on explaining the different sects of Christianity, how they operate, and how may the same sect operate differently in the different parts of the world (I.e. european Protestantism v. American Protestantism, the different branches of Protestantism within the states), what it actually means being in that sect and their core beliefs, the history of different sects, that sort of things. While I am interested in understanding their doctrines and morals, I’m less interested in knowing their tenets than knowing how their belief system affects their behaviors and day to day lives, and how that belief system came to be since the Abrahamic times. I am not looking to change my religion I would happily remain agnostic, and I would like to read something that respects my frame of reference. Hit me with suggestions. Thanks!
