Hi everyone, hoping to get some recommendations! Some background below.
I had a child a couple of years ago and it really detached me from reading. I've always been a big reader but parenting a baby left me without the energy for it, and then I just lost the habit.
Anyway, recently I've been trying to get back into it. I've started trying to read on my commute rather than flick on my phone.
I've been getting myself back into reading by picking short novels or novellas. Things that I can get lost in, but are short enough that it doesn't feel overwhelming as someone who has lost the knack of reading.
So, I'm looking for recommendations of great novels or novellas. Or even short story collections. Pretty open minded on genre, era, style.
Here are the things I've read during this period, for reference.
The Outsider – Camus
Heart of Darkness – Conrad
The Vegetarian – Han Kang
Labyrinths – Borges (a short story collection)
I've also re-read The Great Gatsby and Slaughterhouse Five.
Have loved all of these. I've no idea if there's anything that links these all together other than being great writing, but maybe someone cleverer than me will see a theme there as to what I like!
