I'm back!
My kiddo (5th grade, advanced reader) loves books with animal protagonists. So far he's enjoyed Bad Guys, Bunnicula, and Redwall. I've got Mrs. Frisby queued up for him, but these are the only books I know with animal protags. It's been like pulling teeth to get him to read at home until recently, so I want to encourage this new habit by getting books he's more likely to enjoy.
So suggestions for books with animal protagonists? Any genre is fine.
TIA!

Try Jack London’s Call of the Wild or White Fang. These books were written in a different time with different social structure and lots of open racism. I haven’t read them in 40 plus years so I don’t know how appropriate they are now.
Good luck
Stuart Little
Mercy Watson books and Tales of Despereaux books by Kate DiCamillo
The Borrowers
Charlotte’s Web
Mouse & The Motorcycle books by Beverly Clearly
Mistmantle Chronicles would be good if he liked Redwall… Watership Down isn’t a kid’s book, but the language is pretty accessible and it could be a good ‘stretch’ read (if he’s not going to be too devastated when some of the bunnies die violently.) The original 101 Dalmatians book by Dodie Smith is a really neat read.
The Book of Night with Moon by Diane Duane
The Eyes and the Impossible — absolutely incredible book from Dave Eggars
Warrior Cats… quality is not great, but it is entertaining
The Animals of Farthing Wood series, by Colin Dann
The Mammoth Trilogy, by Stephen Baxter, first book is Silverhair. Maybe more like young adult.
It’s a graphic novel trilogy—beautiful artwork and deep themes: *The Dam Keeper*
If he enjoyed Redwall that’s part of large series of books.
He might enjoy the [Seekers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seekers_(novel_series)) series if he doesn’t mind heavy-handed environmental messaging.
[Tailchaser’s Song](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tailchaser%27s_Song) is excellent.
[The Animals of Farthing Wood](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Animals_of_Farthing_Wood) is fun.
[Varjak Paw](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varjak_Paw) and it’s sequel *The Outlaw Varjak Paw* are supposed to be good.
[The Plague Dogs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Plague_Dogs_(novel)) is renowned, but hopefully he has a strong stomach.
All of Brian Jacques Redwall stuff. Bambi. All Dogs Go to Heaven. Animal Farm.
