To those of you who have read it, you'll know how distraught I am after finishing the book and having to leave behind the characters you've grown to love. Naturally, I would love to read a similar book, particularly one emphasizing the growth of a character and their introspective battles with themselves. I've heard Lonesome Dove might scratch the East of Eden itch, but I'd like to hear other recommendations too, thank you!

I liked Lonesome Dove, but it is a far cry from East of Eden.
I’m reading Middlemarch right now, and although not as exciting or as great of characters as EoE, it has a similar feel in terms of beautiful insightful prose dealing with the essence of humanity.
Read Lonesome Dove, but don’t ecpect EoE.
Wallace Steiner’s Angle of Repose
I went from Grapes of Wrath to East of Eden. Nothing compares to those books.
Lonesome Dove, yes
If you don’t wanna, maybe something by Barbara Kingsolver fits the bill, a long-spanning epic full of deep, rich characters. Either Poisonwood Bible or Demon Copperhead.
