Books on hopeless situations involving radical acceptance

Hey all,

Not looking for self help books. Mostly looking for stories about hopeless situations with endings that end in acceptance. Similiar to my last post, but with some slight modifications: doesn't have to be women as the main character(s). Can also be nonfiction. (I STRESS: NO SELF HELP BOOKS). Thinking of Dont Look Up, Wandering Earth, Death's End… I like scifi and horror. Bonus points for exemplifying radical acceptance and perserverance through impoasible odds, with no positive ending. Must be a neutral ending.
