So, my story is that I started my book reading habit in Feb 2024 and it went well. K was reading before too but I got my city library membership in Feb. I read quite some books till Oct 2024 and after that IDK why but my habit derailed and basically the person who usually took a month to complete a big 400 page around or more book started taking 2 to 3 months. After that I just read two books and then stopped reading. I'm a student so academic pressure is also there and well let's just say like everyone I'm also stuck with my phone. Before I used to replace sometime of it by books but now everything I do is on phone. My habit is basically dead at this point but my city library membership is still there and it's pretty big. So what should I do to revive it?

I’d say, read for fun without any pressure of how many pages and books you read. Build it up by enjoying it again. Read something that has nothing to do with your studies? Last year I set myself (for whatever reason!) a really high reading goal and that just killed the joy of reading, at least for me. Reading should be fun 😊

Oh and adding on… I mainly read on my phone tbh. Sometimes I get distracted, but if the book is good, I can stay focused.

    3. I am a huge devotee of physical books, but due to my current life circumstances (extremely busy working mom of three busy kids, working on my masters, etc.), the majority of my reading is done on the Kindle app on my phone. I have Kindle Unlimited and I read a TON of books from there.

Another bit of advice – try for easy wins when you’re getting back into reading. Go for shorter books, or books that are a bit fluffier. I enjoy historical fiction and family dramas, but basically the only thing I’m reading these days are romance books because they are extremely easy to get into. I don’t have the capacity or the time to stick with a book that is a heavy lift mentally. I felt guilty about that for a long time, but I realized that it’s just this stage of life for me.

Also don’t be afraid to DNF a book if it’s not resonating with you. I used to be so proud about never quitting on a book, but life is too short to waste on gutting it out with a book that is garbage. (There is a fair amount of garbage on KU so I’ve gotten really used to DNFing.)
