I've recently bought myself a used kindle in hopes of reading more, it made reading less of a hassle and more of a "pick up and read a bit" thing, but I don't have any gripping enough books to form a consistent habit.

Right now I'm reading through second book of mistborn series by Sanderson, but I can't seem to read more than a few pages. Books that I liked are Harry Dresden seeies (read first two books, good books, not masterpieces, but really enjoyable), Murderbot diaries (also two or three books, similar impression), Project Hail Mary.

Right now I am reading either sloppy korean comics about reincarnated dudes or light novels with same idea, but I want to widen my comfort zone

    1. Changing Planes by Ursula K. LeGuin. It’s delightful, super easy, and I would read it again in a heartbeat.

    2. Short stories? Easy on the attention span, great way to find new authors, lots of interesting or silly or weird ideas. *The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy* collection comes out every year at about this time. Or there are collections of Korean or Japanese or wherever stories if that’s the direction you’d like to go.

Dan Abnett’s books in the Warhammer universe. I’ve explicitly used to break reading slumps, because they always end up being much better than they need to be.

Guards! Guards! By Terry Pratchett it’s still fantasy but it’s funny and, oddly, more grounded than most fantasy because the main characters are definitely not the “chosen ones.”

I really liked Mira Grant’s Parasotology series for this. She also has another series called Feed, same same. In general she is great for what you are describing, both as Mira Grant and as her actual name, Seanen McGuire, which she uses for a whole other group of books including the Incryptid series and several othered.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian

    7. If you likes Dresden Files, try the Psycop series by Jordan Castillo Price. The first book might still be a free giveaway on Amazon for Halloween.

Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold.

Worth mentioning that for me, book two of Mistborn was the only sloggy Sanderson read. Everything else is still large scope, but the minute to minute stakes feel less aimless.

Curse of the White Salamander by JP Clark, it’s like a B-movie in book form! Not super deep but mysterious and scary and action packed to keep you interested.
