Hi! I've never been big on reading but recently because of a college course thats heavy on reading, I've found a new appreciation for it. I'd like to find a nice book that I can read on my own time outside of the class requirements which is largely plays rather than novels. I'm looking for books with dystopian or apocalyptic themes / settings as I'm am a big fan of Fallout and I want with something in that ballpark. Any recommendations welcome!

    1. The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi and The Water Knife by the same author. (TW: The Windup Girl has a rape scene in it, but it’s integral to the plot and is a fantastic book).

The Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler. This one is a must-read, especially in the current political climate.

Odd Billy Todd by N.C. Reed. This book is a great audio book too.

Dungeon Crawler Carl. Yeah, Yeah, dumb title, thought I would hate it. Loved it!

A Canticle for Liebowitz by Walter M. Miller. This one is a classic and is an easy read.

    2. The Slinx is a great book by Tatyana Tolstaya

      Omon Ra by Viktor Pelevin

Invitation to a beheading by Nabokov

Roadside Picnic by Arkady Strugatsky and Boris Strugatsky.

Post-apocalyptic. Inspired the STALKER game series.

The Hunger Games.  Dystopia where the districts who lost the war must each offer a teenaged boy and girl every year as tributes to fight to the death in a televised event. The last survivor gets to go home.

Divergent.  You choose your faction at 16 and there’s no going back.  The book follows a teen who makes an impulsive choice to leave the faction they were raised in, only to find there are challenges to be overcome to be allowed to stay.
