There has always been something about the series that has me obsessed. I'm not saying it's a literary masterpiece, but try as I might, I cannot find a series as good to me. I have searched, and read so many books to fill the void. The time travel, the romance, the history, Scotland. Jamie and Claire's love is epic. I have learned a lot about history by looking things up afterwards. Are there any Outlander fans who have found something they love as much?

I really like the Lost Queen series by Signe Pike. Nothing compares to Outlander but it scratches a bit of that itch for Scotland/romance/history.
Into the Wilderness – book 1 of an amazing series.
My mom and I both love Outlander! I do feel like A Court of Thorns and Roses is comparable, but it’s fantasy and not historical fiction romance. Give the series a try!
Wolf Hall. Not as sexy but really engrossing and you will learn a ton about history, people and places. I always say it’s the closest I’ve ever come to time traveling. And – Wolf Hall and Outlander are the only books that inspired me to plan trips around their stories.
Wolf Hall starts out sort of experimentally – the series is narrated from in Cromwell’s head. So it’s a little weird and disorienting but if you stick with it all of a sudden it will click and you’ll be right there.
Kushiel’s Dart! It gives me the same immersive feeling as Outlander and is a long-running series with a similar amount of plot/intrigue and romance.
All of these were published in the past, the 80’s and 90’s.
Barbara Erskine – She usually does a double timeline, one set in the past, one set in the modern day. She usually has that mix of history and romance that the Outlander books do. I would read in publication order.
Sharon Penman – These would be low on the romance aspect but are generally very adventurous and exciting historical fiction.
Jean M Auel – These are big epics set in Paleolithic Europe. The history is pretty well researched for the time period. There is a lot of sexual scenes, some include SA and some of them haven’t aged well. I would defo read the first 4 books but the ones after fall off in quality.
Sandra Gulland – Wrote a trilogy about Josephine Bonaparte. This is a more literary Historical Fiction.
