    1. The Dresden Files takes place in Chicago. It’s fantasy. I really like the series, fwiw.

    2. The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai, Last Summer on State Street by Toya Wolfe, Native Son by Richard Wright, The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros (more YA, but still good!), Hairstyles of the Damned by Joe Meno, Book of Extraordinary Tragedies also by Joe Meno

If you’re interested in nonfiction, anything by Eve Ewing is great (especially would recommend Ghosts in the Schoolyard, which is about the impact of the Chicago public school closures on the city), as is High-Risers by Ben Austen, which is about the Chicago Housing Authority’s low-income housing projects.
