When I (28,M) was a teenager I read all of the popular teen books of the time. Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Twilight, Skulduggery Pleasant, Golden Compass, Knife of Never Letting Go etc. and then I just stopped.

And for the past decade, despite owning a kindle I've not been able to finish a book. Nothing has really grabbed me and kept me engaged enough to finish it. So I'd get halfway through, get bored and stop reading for long periods of time, but today I'd like that to finally change.

I think my problem has been that reading purely for entertainment hasn't been able to hold my attention. At least since becoming independent enough to be able to decide what I want to do with my time. It was great when I was younger, but now that I can choose to meet up with friends, or listen to any music I like, or play any game I like, books have been losing the battle ever since.

But I want to read. I've realised that it just has to be meaningful.

I have always been a little intimidated by deeper books, but I feel they will be more rewarding and interesting than anything I've ever read before. Consider me a blank slate, I have no preferences as I don't really know what I like. Maybe a classic, maybe something non fiction or maybe something else entirely.

I'm just looking for books that could pull me back in, books where I feel like I've learned or become a better person through finishing them. I don't know where to begin or what to ask for. Any suggestions?

    1. What books end up being meaningful to one person won’t be to another, and it’s hard to say without knowing more about what you find meaningful in general. Maybe for some additional context, you could provide some movies, games, or TV shows that you’ve liked?

Without more, for a classic that may interest a 28-year old guy, I’d say *Slaughterhouse Five* by Kurt Vonnegut.
