I’m looking for some book recommendations for my parents this Christmas. They’ve really enjoyed the Going Home series by A. American, but I know that series leans pretty conservative politically. I’d love to find something with a similar level of realism (stories grounded in real places, practical survival details, and believable challenges) but with a more balanced or even slightly left-leaning perspective to gently broaden their worldview. Ideally, I’m looking for something that focuses less on “EMP apocalypse and fighting other humans,” and more on natural or climate disasters, community rebuilding, and human resilience.
