Looking for books that have a similar dynamic to Witch and Mercenary, or City of Gods and Monsters, or vibe like Trevor and Sypha (castlevania) or the gauntlet scene in King’s Dark tidings.
Capable mmc, morally gray or darker, even better if the fmc is also really capable.
Yearning, bit of a slow burn, denial because of duty / bad timing (because they have to keep moving). Bonus if the guard is reluctant at first or there’s grumpy x sunshine. Good action and loads of tension.
Urban fantasy is welcome, though I’m really looking for something set pre-guns. Something about a good sword, know??
