Hey guys! I don’t get to read as much but I’ve been craving a good fantasy with maybe a slight pirate theme? Or just water/ocean vibes. I’m okay if the main character isn’t lgbtq+ but I’d love for there to be at least some representation and I’d prefer a more mature read as I’m in my mid 20’s. Any recommendations would be awesome!

    1. My recommendation is Priory of the Orange Tree! Great fantasy book with awesome world-building, dragons, and main characters that are LGBTQ

    2. The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett has a bi man as it’s main character though that has little impact on the main story/plot point. It’s an afterthought in a good way I think.

It was being billed as “Knives Out with Fantasy” and while that is true, the worldbuilding, magic systems, and lore really grabbed my imaginationo. To add to that, the two Sherlock and Watson stand-ins, Ana Dolabra the investigator and her assistant Dinios Kol (our narrator), are really fun characters. I feel like it really succeeds in telling a satisfying mystery as well as just creating a good fantasy world with fun action scenes.

Oh and if you care about awards and all that: it did win the Hugo this year for best fiction.

I just finished the second book (third is out next year) and both are probably my favorite books I’ve read this year.
