Hi all, I'm looking for a good fantasy book to read. I'm tired of tropes like "she was an orphan, and she was trained to be a lethal assassin by the order of bla bla", "he was the chosen one" etc. I'm not into smut fantasy or so, but the market seems oversaturated. It doesn't have to be necessarily about great battles and the darkness descending in the world; it can be more like a fantasy atmosphere than a high fantasy tone. However, it should be well-written.

I did read The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. When I was younger, I read The Sword of Truth (did not love it), and the Wheel of Time. I recently read Nettle and Bone, which I found refreshing.

I need a suggestion because every time I read the summary of a fantasy book, I feel totally disinterested, and maybe I am missing some good books.

    1. Spiderlight by Adrian Tchaikovsky fits exactly your description.

It’s awesome fantasy while making fun of overused fanstasy tropes.

    2. I’ve been going through Sanderson’s stuff lately. It’s pretty good, and there’s a ton of it, so it’ll keep you busy for awhile!

    3. If you’re open to space fantasy I’d recommend the red rising series. The first three are a bit on the YA side but the sequels are far more grittier.
