My almost 5-year old daughter is a voracious reader. I really want to start getting her into novels, but I'm really not sure what's appropriate for her age.
One book I was thinking about specifically is the Hobbit. I did a quick search, and most people recommend it around age 6 if a child isn't easily scared, or age 9 if they are.
Since she's still too young for that, it got me thinking… What are the best books for her at 5? What about 6? and 7? and 8?
I checked the internet and found a post with this exact exercise on Scholastic. The problem is that they're just promoting the books that the company sells, not the all time greats for each age/age-group.
Next I checked this sub, and there are a lot of "what are the best books for a X-year old" posts, but no comprehensive list of the best books for every age. So I figured I'd ask the question myself.
What are your opinions on this? You're welcome to structure your responses however you want, I appreciate all of it.
Some of the books I'm most interested in are the Hobbit, the Redwall series, the Dragon Riders of Pern, Nancy Drew, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Hitchhikers guide. But I'm here for your opinions, so please share your thoughts, especially the ones I haven't listed here.
Thank You!
