I’m looking for books set in medieval Europe, with villages, lords, peasants, the Church, and daily life under the feudal system. Historical fiction preferred, but I’m open to anything that truly captures that world and atmosphere.

Maurice Druon’s “The Accursed Kings” is a gem.

Kristin Lavransdatter! The author’s parents were archaeologists, so she knew A LOT about the Middle Ages in Norway.
The Name of the Rose is great, but it’s very much set in the world of monasticism.
