I’ve been in a serious reading slump for about six months, and it’s really making me depressed. Nothing seems to grab my attention anymore. I keep starting books and dropping them. I’m desperate for something that will actually pull me in and remind me why I love reading in the first place.
My favorite genres are fantasy, adventure, and literary fiction, depending on my mood.
Lately, I’ve been craving something in adult fantasy, but I’m open to anything if it’s well written and emotionally engaging.
What’s been making me extra frustrated is that so many popular newer books feel poorly written… all tropes thrown at you and “romantasy” fluff, with little character depth or genuine storytelling. I want layered characters, complex relationships, and stories that mean something.
I especially love books with found family dynamics, complex family relationships, or a badass team working together toward something big.
Some of my favorite books:
Six of Crows
The Greenbone Saga
The Raven Boys
The Secret History
Beartown
My Brilliant Friend
If you have any recs that could help me fall back in love with reading, please help!
