Something that will make me go: “What the hell did I just read???”
For my next book club, the theme that was chosen was “overly absurd fiction.” Basically anything that is unhinged, chaotic, and messy and leaves you questioning your sanity after having finished it. Bonus points if it’s funny. 🙂
Sky Daddy! Super weird, and perfect for book club with lots to consider and a satisfying but open to interpretation ending

“John Dies at the End” by David Wong(Jason Pargin)
The second book is “Don’t open this book! It’s full of Spiders!”
and the third book is literally called… “What the Hell did I just Read?” which is perfect, because that’s exactly what I said to myself when I read the first book.
I really love John Dies at the End, because on top of being weird and fun, it really broadened my idea of what a book could be.

Dungeon crawler Carl.
Absurd and funny fantasy / sci fi.

Piranesi – but it’s more of a what did I just read book than a funny romp
I just read All Fours which is absolutely messy and unhinged. It’s about marriage, sexuality, motherhood and menopause. We read in my book club and there’s ALOT to discuss and it will provoke a lot of opinions.
My Year of Rest and Relaxation is also messy and I thought very funny but I like dark humor.
