I love Octavia Butler and Nnedi Okorafor. I've got Left Hand of Darkness on hold and am looking forward to that.
I tried reading Three Body Problem and I found it annoyingly convoluted. I'm most of the way through Annihilation and am finding both the writing style and character development surprisingly flat/dull for such an interesting plot.
I'm looking for more sci fi with nuance and depth, and characters that I can get invested in. I'll take fantasy & magical realism that meets these criteria as well – loved Piranesi, LOTR felt long winded and tiresome.
