Amazon is the actual worst (breaking news, I know) and I have to use four Audible credits before December 9th. If I used them after that, they will automatically sign me back up for Audible.

I would like suggestions for good, popular books that are likely to have a million month long hold on Libby. I like horror, dark fantasy (not so much romantasy), magical realism, and thrillers.

I just enjoyed “ocean at the end of the lane” which fits these themes. Recommended to me by someone on here!

I don’t know about libby wait times but I really enjoy the audio version of Her Majesties Royal Coven. There’s 3 out (I’ve not listened to book 3 yet) so that could cover them all?

Or some audible only books – The Sandman audible plays were pretty good, and I enjoyed Slayers: A Buffyverse Story ….but that’s probably only good if you liked the tv show.

Also, in case you’re not aware, you keep the books you get with credit so you could get 4 now to use up the credits and then still listen once your account is not active…so I don’t think you’d need to concentrate only on books with long libby wait times if that makes sense?

For fantasy, I remember “First Law” series had crazy long lines on Libby, also “The Locked Tomb” series and more recently “The Spear Cuts Through Water”. I also currently have “The Tainted Cup” on hold which I haven’t read yet, but I have heard great things about it and it has a long wait time… Also I know all of James Islington’s books are audible exclusives unfortunately.

Magical realism is a little harder because I think these books just tend to not be as popular, but I think the wait time for “A Tale for the Time Being” was pretty long.

For thrillers, I don’t read a ton in this genre, but “Gone Girl” and “Bunny” are both very popular and probably have long lines.

We Used To Live Here by Marcus Kliewer

I waited like 3 months for the this book on Libby and it was well worth the wait.

      Quick summary from Google:
“We Used to Live Here is a 2024 horror novel by Marcus Kliewer about a queer couple who buys a house and lets a family of former residents visit, leading to a series of increasingly strange and terrifying events. The novel explores themes of reality, identity, and perception, blending psychological horror with a mind-bending plot that has been compared to House of Leaves.”
