A book about the effects of consumerism on the environment?

I am looking for a book for a class I am teaching that is accessible enough for a general audience, but goes into some of the effects of how a consumeristic culture affects the environment. I used to use a book, How much is enough? by Alan Durning, which accomplishes the goal but is over 30 years old now and much has changed with respect to consumerism (the foreward talks about the opening of the Mall of America as an example of changing consumerism), so a more up-to-date book with current examples would be appreciated!
