I want to read a book that will bum me out.
True crime, memoirs, and biographies are all welcome.
Looking for something along the lines of Columbine by Dave Cullen, Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe, People Who Eat Darkness by Richard Lloyd Perry, Reap the Whirlwind by Peter Houlahan, Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann, and I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara.
They don’t need to be true crime. I’m just looking for a book that recounts people at the extremes of grief, injustice, and the human condition. I’m fascinated by the way people cope with situations most people couldn’t possibly imagine being in. Memoirs in the same vein as With the Old Breed by E.B. Sledge would also be appreciated.
