We're all a bunch of (specific sport) wives who are in our 30s and 40s and most of us are moms to younger children. I need to bring a suggestion to book club in a couple of days. Some books we read and liked are:

    Broken country
    The frozen river
    The great alone

We are discussing the phoenix pencil company this week. My personal reading tastes are high fantasy and sci-fi and don't seem to be the vibe of the group, but they might be open to it. I am really looking for a book that is highly loved and is a page turned as well.

I flaired this as feel good fiction but all genres are fair game!

Here are the last few books my book club unanimously enjoyed:

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

      James by Percival Everett

Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte Mcconaughy

I like dystopian and sci-fi, but the rest of the book club doesn’t so I usually have to compromise! We mostly all liked these titles with mild sci-if:

Station Eleven and Sea of Tranquility by Emily St John Mandel

Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr

    2. For feel good sci-fo maybe you could get them to go for Becky Chambers? A Psalm for the Wild Built is just lovely and not too out there. Otherwise Fannie Flagg is a solid choice. I’m sure some of you would have seen Fried Green Tomatoes and the book is just as great as the movie. On another vein, you could try Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. It’s not heavy, and the main character is a very self-possessed lady detective in Melbourne in the 1920s. There was a few seasons of a show based on the books too that are fun escapism. And though you asked for fiction, I can’t stop myself from recommending The Day the World Came to Town by Jim DeFede, about the people in small town Canada opening their doors to airline passengers stranded by 9/11, just in case you’re looking for other types of books.

    3. The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

It’s a very cozy book AND the main character is in a ‘book’ club herself. Very much a page turner. I think yall would enjoy this one.

My wife and sister and another woman I know loved The Sun Just Might Fail. It will be hard to find but for Amazon though.

It will be something for you as you read high fantasy as well. It isn’t that but I think readers of high fantasy will love it.

      I enjoyed
