Since I was a kid 99% of books I have read have been spy/detective thrillers and I’m looking to branch out, could you suggest books of all different genres that could introduce me to that genre well/help me determine if that genre is for me.

Starship Troopers by Heinlein. Good sci-fi used to explore philosophical and ethical concepts.
James Patterson books are gd and ruth rendell
The Martian – by Andy Weir, this book is a great intro to modern science fiction, it’s believable and the prose is very modern. His other popular book “Project Hail Mary” is good as well, but it’s much less believable and leans into the fiction side of things. If you liked spy thrillers, you might love historical fiction books by authors like Erik Larson who has a bunch of great titles to read, really can’t go wrong, and I would recommend David Grann, specifically his book “The Wager” it’s an amazing read. If you want psychological fantasy, “Piranesi” is the best modern example and is a fantastic book. If you want magical fantasy, the Mistborn series is a great place to start, if you like D&D then a series called “The Band” by Nicholas Eames is like reading D&D campaigns. Those are a few suggestions I have.
